How it works

Each round pulls a real song from the iTunes catalog for your chosen decade. You get up to 6 guesses. After each wrong guess (or skip), a slightly longer clip plays.

Type a song or artist name in the box — autocomplete will search the library. Hit Skip to hear more without using a real guess, or Guess to lock in your answer.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same as the original Heardle?
Heardle Decades is inspired by the original Heardle game (which was acquired and shut down by Spotify in 2023). This version focuses on specific eras — you choose the decade (70s through 2010s) and get a fresh song each time you play, pulled live from the iTunes catalog.
How do I play heardle 80s online?
Select the 80s era button above. A song from 1980–1989 will load automatically. Press Play to hear the opening clip — starting at just 1 second. Type your guess in the box and pick from the autocomplete suggestions. Each wrong guess or skip unlocks a longer clip (1 → 2 → 4 → 8 → 16 → 30 seconds).
Where do the song previews come from?
All 30-second audio previews are served by Apple / iTunes (audio-ssl.itunes.apple.com), which allows cross-origin playback. No files are downloaded to your device and no audio is processed on our servers — everything runs in your browser.
Why does the song sometimes feel too easy or too hard?
Songs are pulled from iTunes top-charting tracks for each decade. You may occasionally get a well-known classic or a deeper cut. If a song feels too obscure, just skip through all 6 clips and reveal the answer — you can start a new round immediately by refreshing or switching decades.
Can I share my score?
Yes! After each round ends, an emoji scorecard appears showing which guess you got it on. Copy it and paste into any chat or social post to share your result without spoilers.
