- Is my gift list private? Where is the data stored?
- All data is stored exclusively in your browser's localStorage — a sandboxed storage area on your own device. Nothing is sent to any server. Closing the tab does not erase data; it persists until you clear your browser's site data or click "Delete" on an entry. For a permanent backup, use the Export CSV button.
- How do I track thank-you notes across multiple events (wedding, baby shower, birthday)?
- Each gift entry has an "Event" field. You can add gifts from different occasions to the same list and use the search box to filter by event name (e.g. type "Baby Shower" in the search to see only those entries). The note-sent progress bar always reflects the full list, so you can see your overall completion at a glance.
- What is the etiquette for when to send wedding thank-you notes?
- The traditional guideline is within three months of the wedding — but sooner is always better. For gifts received before the wedding (e.g. at a bridal shower), aim to send notes within two weeks. This tracker's "Notes Pending" filter makes it easy to see exactly who still needs a note so nothing slips through.
- Can I use this for baby shower or birthday gifts, not just weddings?
- Absolutely. The Event field includes Baby Shower, Birthday, Funeral (for sympathy gifts), and Other. The cash total, note-sent tracking, and CSV export all work the same way regardless of event type. Many people keep a running list across multiple occasions.
- What happens if I clear my browser data?
- Clearing cookies and site data will erase your localStorage entries. To prevent data loss, export a CSV backup regularly using the "Export CSV" button. You can then re-import the data manually if needed (paste entries back one by one). For multi-device access, keep the CSV on a shared drive.
