How it works

The generator ships with ~50 questions per category (250 total). Everything runs in your browser — no server calls, no account needed.

Shuffle Questions are shuffled using Fisher-Yates on first use, then served in order so you never hit the same question twice in a row.
Dedup ring The last 10 shown questions are stored in sessionStorage. If a reshuffled deck starts with a recent question, it is skipped automatically.
Categories Switch category anytime — each has its own independent shuffle deck. Switching back picks up where you left off.
Privacy sessionStorage is cleared when you close the tab. Nothing is sent anywhere — 100% client-side.

Frequently asked questions

What is a conversation starter and why does it work?
A conversation starter is an open-ended question designed to invite a genuine, personal response rather than a yes/no answer. Research in social psychology consistently shows that mutual self-disclosure — sharing opinions, memories, and values — builds rapport faster than small talk. A good prompt removes the awkward "so... what do we talk about?" moment and signals that real conversation is welcome. Questions about hypotheticals, past experiences, and values tend to be the most effective because they invite storytelling rather than just facts.
Which category should I use for each situation?
Family Dinner questions are warm, nostalgic, and appropriate for mixed ages. Party questions are energetic and fun — good for groups. Icebreaker questions are light and safe for strangers, new colleagues, or classrooms. Date Night questions are more intimate and reflective — designed to build genuine connection. Team Meeting questions are professionally appropriate, quick to answer, and help teammates see each other as people. Use Any to pull from the full bank of 250 questions.
Will I see the same question twice?
Within a session, the generator shuffles the full question list for each category and works through it in order, so you won't see a repeat until you've exhausted all questions. Additionally, a ring buffer of the last 10 questions prevents them from reappearing immediately after the deck resets. The history strip below the question card lets you scroll back through everything you've seen in this session.
