Frequently asked questions

Is this form legally binding?
A written as-is vehicle condition report signed by both parties significantly strengthens an as-is private sale. However, laws vary by state and country. In many US states an "as-is" disclaimer in a signed bill of sale is enforceable, but certain consumer-protection warranties may still apply. For high-value transactions, have a local attorney review the document. This tool provides a template — it is not legal advice.
Are my photos or data uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything happens inside your browser using the pdf-lib JavaScript library. Photos are resized via an HTML Canvas element, and the PDF is built in memory and offered as a download. No data leaves your device at any point.
What does "as-is" mean on a car sale?
"As-is" means the buyer accepts the vehicle in its current condition with no obligation on the seller to repair anything after the sale. Documenting the condition at time of sale with a checklist and photos protects both parties: the seller cannot be blamed for undisclosed issues that were visible, and the buyer has evidence of what was disclosed. This report is designed to create that paper trail clearly.
What should I photograph for a private car sale?
At minimum: all four corners of the exterior, the odometer, the engine bay, the interior (dashboard, seats, cargo area), and any areas marked Caution or Bad in the checklist. If there is visible rust, paint damage, or cracked glass, photograph it clearly. The more evidence documented at time of sale, the lower the risk of disputes later.
Can I use this for a dealer or commercial sale?
This tool is designed for private (person-to-person) vehicle sales. Commercial dealers are subject to additional federal and state disclosure regulations (FTC Used Car Rule, Buyers Guide sticker, etc.) that are not covered here. For dealer use, consult a compliance professional and use the appropriate regulated forms.
